Hello! My name is Courtney Templeton. I am 24 years old and grew up in Brentwood, California. I come from a wonderful family of four. Our
parents taught us the value of education and strong moral values from a
very young age. As a family we learned to take care of each other and household
duties with joy with chore charts, check lists as we learned about taking responsibility. When I wasn't fulfilling family responsibilities, I
often babysat other children in our neighborhood. I learned from a
young age how to manage children, educate them, cook, clean, and be
dependable, safe, and responsible. I also learned how to have fun and
create positive and creative recreational activities that promoted
growth and education for the children I cared for.
I went to high school at Liberty Union High and earned my undergraduate work at Multnomah University, Portland Oregon where I earned my
Bachelors Degree of Science. I majored in Biblical & Theology and Elementary Education. This diversity of
education provided me with many tools to teach, communicate, and care
for children effectively.
Questions and Answers
What kind of hobbies do you have?
The
hobbies I am most passionate about are volunteering, working in third world countries, outdoor activities, hiking, cooking, crafts and learning. My
hobbies have helped me learn how to positively influence others, taught
me a lot of self-discipline, and have been the source of so much
personal joy.
What activities do you like to do with children?
I love to read to children, tell them stories, help them make up their own stories, sing to them, play pretend and create fun adventures with them. I love going to the park, playing games and going on walks. I enjoy teaching children how to cook and make experiments, bike rides, making up dances, playing house or cars. Having an imagination is so valuable to a child.
What are your future goals?
Having
my own family and children. Going to graduate school for a masters in education. Becoming an elementary education teacher. Serving
internationally as a humanitarian volunteer, starting a school overseas and volunteering in a orphanage/village type setting.

Mbabane, Swaziland. Teaching at New Life Homes Orphanage.
I had the incredible opportunity of working as a volunteer teacher in Swaziland for four months. I was able to work with many amazing children
and adults. As part of my service there,I taught 3rd & 4th grader,
AIDS awareness, and health/nutrition. I was also able to dedicate
individual time with orphans who had been abandoned, either because they
had contracted AIDS, or because their parents had died from AIDS. The orphanage I worked with accepted children whose parents have been effected by AIDS. Either passed away or have been unable to take care of them anymore. I
spent most of my time holding them, (since they were deprived of most
physical affection), singing to them, Dancing and playing games with them.
This
experience taught me how to nurture children of all different cultures,
needs, and health conditions. I strengthened skills in endurance,
adaptability, creativity, and optimism. These sweet children changed my
life in a very positive way.
This is my class, I was responsible for teaching them in all subjects, English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Practical Arts and Home Ec. I had the amazing opportunity to watch these students grow, mature and develop their minds over the four months I was with them.
They taught me to enjoy every moment, the smalls things in life and not to take anything for granted. I got to try new things, learn a new language and try amazing new foods.

Cape Town, South Africa
Missionary Volunteer Intern
Serving as a volunteer missionary, I spent 12 months in South Africa , going to various school educating them on AIDS awareness, teaching them about leadership skills and encouraging them to make life goals to strive for. We built homes, had children camps for VBS, leadership skills and outdoor education. I was on a team of eight and we preformed various service projects and it was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. It showed me that a child is a child no matter what the background may be that they still want to be loved and feel valued as a person.

How long and in what capacity have you known _Courtney
Templeton?
I have worked with Courtney for one year at Childrens’
Creative Learning Center/Fred Meyer. I’m the Director there and Courtney was an
employee at the center being both a floater and an Infant 2 teacher.
Please share your perspective on each of the following aspects/issues with
respect to _Courtney Templeton___:
(just a sentence or two on each point please)
- Flexibility: Courtney was always flexible at our center and with the
management. She called in to see if she was needed and would do whatever was
asked of her. Being a floater at our center requires working in each room with
all age group and all teachers. That alone shows the flexibility she has.
- Discernment (judgment): Courtney has a good head on her shoulders and came to
me often with concerns she saw at the center and often offered solutions.
- Quality of work & effort: She brought our Infant 2 room up to date in many
areas. She brought portfolios up to date. She changed the room around to put it
in better working order. She raised the standard in that room and it made the
other teachers more accountable.
- Attitude about ministry:
- Initiative: She initiated many art projects in the infant room. It was something
I was happy to see her do. People often think that babies in care don’t do
curriculum and Courtney took that on and did it.
- Approach to preparation of work: She came to work every day prepared and a
smile on her face, even in the hardest of times. I
- Ability to communicate (interpersonal & public): She is an incredible
communicator with a real respect when both listening and speaking with parents
and children. She was well loved by parents and staff at our center.
- Perseverance: There was slot of drama going on in the room Courtney went
into. Courtney stuck by her beliefs and went into that room with a great
attitude. She didn’t tolerate the gossip and did her work.
- Testimony in deed, speech, and attitudes/emotions: She sticks up for what she
believes in and I love that about her. I wish more were like that.
- Concern for people: Even when people weren’t always kind to her, she found a
way to look at how it could be better.
- Describe his/her disposition/temperament: calm, kind helps others, respectful,
good with all age groups
- Personal appearance: She was always properly dressed. We have a dress code
and she always followed it.
- Conduct toward the opposite sex: N/A
- What are his/her strengths? Courtney is just genuine in her approach to life.
She is a dream employee, on time, honest, helpful.
- What areas need development? I’m sure she will continue to grow as a teacher
and I have no doubts they will be in beautiful ways. She is very mature for her age.
